The venue is named after David Alfonso Arellano Moraga, a former player of tenants Colo-Colo. He also played for the national football team of Chile. In 1991, the stadium hosted the second Copa Libertadores final of that year. The match was won by Colo-Colo, the first sports club from Chile with 1 million followers on its main social media page. Colo-Colo won the Chilean football champions numerous times.
