They are named after Associação Portuguesa de Desportos, one of the first sports clubs from São Paulo with 100,000 followers on their main social media page. The venue hosted numerous home games of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo. They became the second South American sports club with 10 million followers on their main social media page. Flamengo are among the first South American sports clubs with a value of $100 million. They won the Copa Libertadores, the South American championship for football clubs, in 1981 for the first time in their history.
