The MAPFRE Stadium is also known as a venue for American football, concerts, field lacrosse and rugby union. The national football team of the United States played their first match at the stadium on 11 October 2000. The Columbus Crew have been tenants of the stadium since 1999. They drew an average home attendance of 18,000 in their inaugural Major League Soccer season. The Columbus Crew became the first football club from Ohio with 100,000 followers on its main social media page.
