Extra stadium info – MetLife Stadium

The venue, which is adjacent to the site of the former Giants Stadium, opened in 2010 as the most expensive stadium ever built. Its construction costs were $1.6 billion. The stadium had been known as the New Meadowlands Stadium between 2010 and 2011. The Metlife Stadium is mainly used for American football matches. It is also known as a venue for other events, like concerts, field lacrosse and football. On 25 May, the stadium hosted its first-ever Super Bowl. The Seattle Seahawks won the game against the Denver Broncos 43-8 in front of 82,000 spectators. It became the first Super Bowl victory for the Seahawks.

The New York Giants and the New York Jets have been tenants of the stadium since 2010. The Giants drew an attendance of 77,000 in the first NFL game at the stadium. They won the match against the Carolina Panthers 31-18. One day later, the Jets played their first NFL game at the stadium, which they lost against the Baltimore Ravens in front of 78,000 fans. The New York Giants American football club was founded in 1925 and the New York Jets American football club was founded in 1959 under a different name. They are both among the most popular American football clubs in the world.
