The stadium, which opened as the Las Vegas Stadium, is named after a major figure in the hotel and casino industry in Las Vegas. It is known as a venue for several events, like American football, concerts, football, monster truck events and rugby sevens. The venue was the home of the Las Vegas Quicksilvers, the former club of the world famous football legend Eusébio. The Las Vegas Quicksilvers dissolved in 1978. In 2012, 29,000 people came to the Sam Boyd Stadium to watch a football match between Real Madrid from Spain and Santos Laguna from Mexico. It became a record attendance for a football match in Nevada.
