The construction costs of the venue started in 2016. It opened with a Major League Soccer match between Minnesota United and New York City Football Club. 19,000 people attended the game, which ended in a 3-3 draw. Osvaldo Alonso, who played various matches for the national football team of Cuba, scored the first goal of the match. In 1938, Cuba became the first team from the Caribbean at the prestigious FIFA World Cup. Haiti became the second team in 1974.
