The construction costs of the stadium were $37 million. The venue is also sometimes used for other events, like concerts, football and rugby league. In 1977, it hosted the home games of the dissolved football club Team Hawaii. 12,000 people attended their only home game against the New York Cosmos. Edson Arantes do Nascimento, commonly known as Pelé, played for the Cosmos in that match. He was named Athlete of the Century by the IOC.
