The American football team of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are the current tenants. The stadium also hosted home games of the Atlanta Apollos and the Atlanta Beat, two former football clubs. In 2017, football club Atlanta United played their first-ever Major League Soccer match at the Bobby Dodd Stadium. 55,000 people attended the match, which they played against Red Bull New York. Atlanta United drew an average attendance of 48,000 in 17 home games in their inaugural Major League Soccer season. In 2018, they won the MLS Cup for the first time in their history. Atlanta United won the MLS Cup after beating the Portland Timbers 2-0. 73,000 fans attended the match, which took place in Atlanta.
