The construction costs of the venue, which opened with a football match, were $60 million. Football club Inter Miami use the stadium for home games. The Major League Soccer club was founded in 2018. They played their first-ever MLS match on 1 March 2020. The match against Los Angeles Football Club, which took place in California, was played in front of 22,000 fans. LAFC won the game 1-0 after the Mexican winger Carlos Alberto Vela Garrido scored the only goal of the match. Inter Miami won their first-ever Major League Soccer match on 23 August 2020. The game against Orlando City ended in a 3-2 victory for Inter Miami.
In 2020, Inter Miami signed the Argentine football star Gonzalo Higuaín. He played professional football for River Plate, Real Madrid, SSC Napoli, Juventus, AC Milan and Chelsea before he signed with Inter Miami. His brother, Federico Higuaín, also signed with Inter Miami in 2020. Gonzalo Higuaín played in the 2014 FIFA World Cup final, which took place in Brazil. The match was won by the national football team of Germany after Mario Götze scored the only goal of the match. In 2017, Higuaín played his only UEFA Champions League final, which he lost. The Spanish side Real Madrid won the final after beating the Italian side Juventus in front of 65,000 spectators.
