The stadium was named Estadio Nacional Dennis Martínez. It was named after a former Major League Baseball pitcher from Nicaragua. José Dennis Martínez Ortiz, also known as El Presidente, was born in 1955. He played his first Major League Baseball match in 1976. José Dennis Martínez Ortiz played his last Major League Baseball game in 1998. The Indios del Bóer use the venue named Estadio Nacional Soberanía for home matches. The baseball club was founded in 1905. They were crowned baseball champions of Nicaragua various times.
