The venue is named after a former athlete. It hosted numerous home games of the national football team of Haiti. In 1974, Haiti played their first-ever FIFA World Cup match. That year, they were one of the 16 FIFA World Cup participants. Haiti became the second team from the Caribbean at the FIFA World Cup. Cuba became the first team in 1938.
