The stadium’s record attendance was set in 1962, when 35,000 people attended a football match between Kilmarnock FC and Rangers FC. Kilmarnock Football Club, nicknamed Killie, was founded in 1869. They have been tenants of the Rugby Park since 1899. Kilmarnock FC won the Scottish football championship in 1965 for the first time in their history.
