The construction costs of the venue were £40 million. It is also known as the Kirklees Stadium. The Huddersfield Giants, one of the oldest rugby league clubs in the world, and Huddersfield Town Association Football Club use the venue for home games. Huddersfield Town, nicknamed The Terriers, won the English top-division in 1924 for the first time in their history. They drew an average home attendance of 17,000 in 21 games during that domestic league season. Huddersfield Town won two more national titles and the FA Cup in the 1920s.
