Extra stadium info – American Express Community Stadium

The construction of the venue, which is also known as the Falmer Stadium, started in 2008. Its construction costs were £93 million. The American Express Community Stadium opened with a match between tenants Brighton & Hove Albion FC and Tottenham Hotspur FC. The visitors from London won the game. Brighton & Hove Albion became the first football team from East Sussex with 100,000 followers on its main social media page.

Domestic football

Brighton & Hove Albion, nicknamed The Seagulls, drew an average home attendance of 20,000 in their first domestic football league season at the stadium. They played numerous matches in the Premier League. The FIFA World Cup, the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League became the first football competitions with 10 million followers on its’ main social media page. The Seagulls played their first-ever FA Cup final in 1983. The game against Manchester United ended in a 2-2 draw. A replay was won by Manchester United. The FA Cup final and the replay took place in London. The first match attracted a crowd of 99,000 and the second match attracted a crowd of 91,000.
