The construction of the stadium started in 2011 and its construction costs were £20 million. The venue has been the home of Rotherham United Football Club, also known as The Millers, since 2012. The club was founded in 1925. On 21 July 2012, they won their first game at the stadium. It was a 2-1 victory against Barnsley FC. The Millers also won their first league game at the AESSEAL New York Stadium.
