The stadium is named after Alfonso Pérez, who was born in Getafe. He scored 11 goals in 38 matches for the national football team of Spain. Getafe CF use the stadium for home games. The club was founded in 1983. They played numerous matches in the Spanish top-flight football league. In 2007, Getafe CF played their first-ever final of the Spanish cup tournament. They drew an average home attendance of 11,000 in that league season. Sevilla FC won the final, which took place in Madrid in front of 80,000 spectators. Frédéric Oumar Kanouté, who played numerous matches for the national football team of Mali, scored the only goal of the match.
