In 2008, the venue hosted its first match of the national football team of Romania. Fotbal Club CFR 1907 Cluj is among the first Romanian sports clubs with 100,000 followers on its main social media page. It became the first sports club from Cluj-Napoca with a value of at least $10 million. CFR Cluj won the Romanian top division in 2008 for the first time in their history. The same year, they made their debut in the UEFA Champions League, the prestigious European championship for football clubs. CFR Cluj finished fourth place in the group stage, below AS Roma, Chelsea and the Girondins de Bordeaux. In 2010, they were one of the 32 clubs in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League again.
