Extra stadium info – Stadion De Vijverberg
De Graafschap, nicknamed Superboeren (Super Farmers), was founded in 1954. They have been tenants of Stadion De Vijverberg, which was renovated several times, since 1954. Jhon van Beukering is one of their former players. He is among the first football players who played for De Graafschap, NEC and Vitesse, the three most popular sports clubs from Gelderland. Van Beukering signed with Feyenoord, one of the most successful Dutch football clubs, in 2010. He played for the national football team of Indonesia in 2012. Van Beukering became infamous for his lack of speed. He earned the nickname Jhonny van de Burger King due to him being frequently overweight.
In May 2016, Stadion De Vijverberg hosted a match between De Graafschap and AFC Ajax from Amsterdam. That day, Ajax had to beat De Graafschap to win their 34th Dutch top-flight league title. The football match ended in a 1-1 draw. Amin Younes scored the first goal of the match and Bryan Smeets scored the equaliser for De Graafschap. The same day, PSV from Eindhoven won their game against PEC Zwolle, which resulted in the 23th Dutch top-flight league title for PSV. Ajax became the first football club with 20 Dutch top-flight league titles, followed by PSV.
