The construction of the stadium, which is named after a former football player, started in 1995. NAC Breda was founded in 1912, when the clubs ADVENDO and NOAD merged into the NOAD ADVENDO Combinatie. The full name of NAC Breda is Nooit Opgeven Altijd Doorzetten Aangenaam Door Vermaak En Nuttig Door Ontspanning Combinatie Breda. It became one of the longest sports club names in the world. NAC Breda were crowned Dutch football champions in 1921 for the first time in their history.
