The venue opened with a football match. Heracles Almelo use the stadium, which opened as the Polman Stadion, for home games. The club was founded in 1903. In 1927, Heracles were crowned Dutch football champions for the first time in their history. In 2012, they played their first-ever Dutch cup final. PSV from Eindhoven won the game, which took place in the city of Rotterdam, 3-0. Nils Ola Toivonen, Dries Mertens and Jeremain Marciano Lens scored for PSV in that final. In 2015, the capacity of the venue was expanded to 12,000. Heracles drew an average home attendance of 11,000 in their first-ever domestic league season after the expansion of the stadium.
