The stadium, also known as the Waldstadion, hosted five FIFA World Cup matches in 2006. In 2011, it hosted the first-ever FIFA Women’s World Cup final in Germany, with 48,000 people in attendance. The final was won by Japan after defeating the United States. Eintracht Frankfurt have been tenants of the Commerzbank-Arena since 1925. They won the German top-flight football league in 1959 for the first time in their history. In 1960, Eintracht Frankfurt reached the final of the European championship for football clubs for the first time in their history. They lost the game against Real Madrid 7-3. 127,000 people attended the match in Glasgow. Eintracht Frankfurt became one of the first sports clubs from Germany with 100,000 followers on their main social media page.
