Extra stadium info – Lusail Stadium

The construction of the Lusail Stadium started in 2017. It became the largest stadium by capacity in Qatar. The venue opened as one of the largest stadiums by capacity in Asia. It opened with a football match between Al-Hilal from Saudi Arabia and Zamalek from Egypt. Al-Hilal, one of the first Asian sports clubs with 10 million followers on its main social media page, won the game. Al-Hilal and Zamalek both won a domestic top-flight league title in the year of the opening of the Lusail Iconic Stadium. Both clubs also won several continental championship titles.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup

On 22 November 2022, the Lusail Stadium hosted its first-ever FIFA World Cup match. 88,000 people attended the game, which was won by the national football team of Saudi Arabia after beating the Argentine Republic. The Argentine football star Lionel Andrés Messi, who scored hundreds of goals for the Spanish side FC Barcelona, scored the first goal of the match. Saleh bin Khalid bin Mohammed al-Shehri scored the second goal of the game and Salem bin Mohammed bin Shafi al-Dawsari scored the third goal of the game.
