Extra stadium info – East Bengal Ground

East Bengal Football Club, one of the major football clubs from India, played numerous home games at the venue. They were founded in 1920 by people who had come to the city which is now known as Kolkata from the region which is now known as Bangladesh. Mohammed Salim is one of the former players of East Bengal. He became the first Indian football player who played for Celtic, one of the first European football champions. In 1986, East Bengal played in the group stage of the Asian championship for football clubs for the first time in their history. They were one of the six football clubs in the group stage of the tournament. Later, East Bengal became one of the first Indian sports clubs with 1 million followers on their main social media page.
