The venue, which was known as the Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium, is owned by the Maharashtra Cricket Association. It hosted numerous Indian Premier League matches. The Indian Premier League is known as the most popular Indian cricket league. The national cricket team of India played various matches at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium. In 1983, they won the tournament which is currently known as the Cricket World Cup for the first time in their history. It was the third edition of the competition.
