Extra stadium info – Guiyang Olympic Sports Centre Stadium

The construction of the Guiyang Olympic Sports Centre Stadium, which is also used for athletics, started in 2006. It opened as the largest sports venue by capacity in the city of Guiyang. Guizhou Football Club use the stadium for home games. The club was founded in 1992 under a different name. The name of the football club was changed several times.

The second level of Chinese football

In 2016, Guizhou Football Club were promoted to the Chinese top-flight football league for the first time in their history. Tianjin Tianhai, a former football club, were also promoted to the Chinese Super League that year. Guizhou FC drew an average home league attendance of 11,000 that year. They finished second place after gathering 59 points. Three clubs gathered 59 points in the second level of Chinese football in 2016.

The 2017 Chinese Super League

Guizhou FC played their first-ever match in the Chinese top-flight football league on 3 March 2017. The game ended in a 1-1 draw. Guizhou Football Club won their first top-flight league match on 28 April 2017. They scored three times against the club which is currently known as Guangzhou City. In 2017, Guizhou FC finished eighth place in their inaugural Chinese Super League season. They drew an average attendance of 21,000 in 15 home games in that league season. That year, Guizhou Football Club gathered 42 points in 30 league games. They won 12 of those 30 games. Six games ended in a draw and Guizhou FC lost 12 of those 30 matches. The club which is currently known as Guangzhou FC were crowned Chinese football champions in 2017 after gathering 64 points.
