The stadium is used for several events, like athletics, concerts and football. In 1991, it was one of the venues for the world championship for women’s national football teams. The tournament was won by the United States after beating Norway. The final took place in Guangzhou in front of 63,000 spectators. The national women’s football team of Sweden finished third place after defeating Germany 4-0.
