The national football team of Mali, nicknamed Les Aigles (The Eagles), use the venue for home games. In 2002, the stadium hosted the final of the African championship for national football teams. Tens of thousands of people attended the game, which was won by Cameroon after defeating Senegal. In 1990, Cameroon became the first national football team from Africa in the quarter-finals of the FIFA World Cup.
